Fives are found in apples, flowers, hands and feet. Our nearest planet, Venus, goddess of love and beauty, draws a lovely fivefold pattern about Earth as she whirls around the Sun.
I've always been fascinated by the number five (my birthday is 5/5), now, after all my research into geometry and number, it fascinates me even more. Dividing a circle into five is like learning a secret, without getting too nerdy about the whole thing, you start by dividing a circle into 4, and the measure for dividing by 5 is found underneath it.
Kirt has an in-depth knowledge of geometry. As well as using geometric principles to underpin the construction of her jewellery, she is currently collaborating with philosopher Robert Rowland Smith on a project that brings design and ideas together in a radically new way. More to follow.
